About the WSG
The Wood Splinter Group was formed in the mid-1990’s as a fairly informal group of serious, if not necessarily professional, Arizona woodworkers. With most members coming from the greater Phoenix area, over the years the group has included artists, craftsmen, hobbyists, and teachers (and probably a few other categories as well).
Initially organized as a sub-group of the statewide artists’ group Arizona Designer-Craftsmen (hence the name “splinter”), that association was short-lived, and group has carried on as an independent entity.
Few groups of any stripe have managed to persist so long with so little structure or rules. By design there is no charter, no guidelines, no set way of electing officers or creating policies. We just kind of get along. Officers are elected by acclaimation at a meeting once a year. There is a general understanding that someone serving as the VP one year will then serve as President the following year. The Prez and VP plan the meetings and organize field trips, and coordinate the annual Good Deed (see Toys for Tots).
Several years ago it was decided that an annual dues was in order - to help pay for materials for the Good Deed, for meeting refreshments, and for other expenses that occasionally come up. WSG annual dues are $25, payable to the Treasurer generally in January.
